According to available information,
in 1938 HBPC were printing around 52 million
stamps in their plant, but they were not
supposedly put into circulation at all.
In 1941, they were still in the stores at
HBPC. During World War II, the plant was
badly damaged and after its restart, the
primary task was bank note printing, rather
than stamps. However, in 1949 the first
postage stamp was produced utilising copper
(intaglio) printing.
Nowadays, the general developments
that have been introduced on bank note printing
have been able to be utilised for stamp
printing. These developments include origination
of stamp designs by computer controlled
design hardware systems and plate manipulation
for intaglio printing.
HBPC is the only stamp producer
in Hungary with the capability to use intaglio
printing and offset and intaglio printing
technology. Current developments include
the installation of machinery capable of
producing multicoloured intaglio stamps.
